JAMIE OLIVER'S FOOD REVOLUTION

About 6 years ago, Jamie Oliver started a campaign to get healthier food in school canteens in England. He faced student rebellion, resistance from the dinner ladies and a lot of red tape with the government. However, he eventually managed to get through to Tony Blair and secure promises of an additional £280M for 3 years, a trust to allow schools without kitchens to build, a pledge to consider a series of training kitchens across the country, and creation of a voluntary code of conduct concerning advertising of junk food to children. The School Dinners campaign is still ongoing...

Now Jamie Oliver has launched a smiliar program in the States. He wants to educate people about the effects of junk food and the health risks as well as showing everyone that cooking heathier food does not have to be difficult, expensive and time consuming. He puts emphasis on kids and the food they are served in schools because they don't have a choice in what they get to eat but what they consume as children can develop bad habits and diabetes short life expectancy.

I support Jamie's Food Revolution and think that he is misunderstood and given a lot of jip on the show because people just assume that he is an English snob that is trying to tell them what to do. However, I think his brave mission to raise awareness about how important it is to be conscious about what you are putting into your body is essential education for all of us not just parents and kids. Now I love a bit of junk food now and again, but I was shocked to see that my dog eats better food than the school dinners served on the show!
